Wall Street Lawyer Leading Wall Street Oversight Unsettles Allies Of Gensler

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Max Moran, moran@therevolvingdoorproject.org

The following statement is attributable to Jeff Hauser, Executive Director of the Revolving Door Project:

“We’ve applauded the nomination and confirmation of Gary Gensler on the basis of his record of taking on Wall Street with vigor as Chairman of the CFTC. That’s why we were so surprised and disappointed to see him choose Alex Oh, a paradigmatic Wall Street attorney, as the new Director of Enforcement at the SEC.”

“Oh spent fewer than four years in public service during the last millennium before representing the likes of UBS, Bank of America, Exxon Mobil, and Merck for over two decades. Oh has chosen to spend over 20 years reinforcing a corrupt status quo in corporate America, in which the largest companies systematically evade democratic accountability. No one so comfortable with the breakdown in the rule of law over corporate America should be entrusted with responsibility for implementing long-overdue accountability on Wall Street.”

“Gary Gensler can and must do vastly better if he is to return the SEC to the vigorous law enforcement agency it has not been since the 1970s.”
